Although know as the Britannia when sunk, her name at her launch in 1889 was the Earl of Aberdeen. She became a victim of a torpedo fired by the German submarine UC-75, when on a voyage from Middlesbrough to St Malo on 19th October 1917.

She carried a cargo of pig iron, her gross tonnage was 765.

22 men lost their lives including her Captain. She lie up right on a fine sandy sea bed into much of her has sunk, standing approx. 3-4m her 2 boilers the highest point. The helm has been recovered but her bell is believed to be within the wreck.
